Peter Greaves

Research Structural Engineer – Blades, ORE Catapult

Peter studied Mechanical and Design Engineering at Newcastle University, after which he worked briefly as a design engineer in the offshore oil and gas industry. He then returned to Newcastle University to obtain an MSc in Renewable Energy.

Peter originally joined Narec in 2009 prior to the merger with ORE Catapult as a mechanical engineer, responsible for developing the concept designs for the 3MW and 15MW drivetrain test rigs. The company then funded Peter’s doctoral studies at Durham University, which aimed to develop more realistic bi-axial fatigue testing method for wind turbine blades.

After completing his PhD a Knowledge Transfer Partnership between Durham University and ORE Catapult was initiated to continue to develop bi-axial testing, and when this project finished Peter returned to ORE Catapult as research engineer working in the Blades Knowledge Area.

Peter was shortlisted in finalist in the Engineer Award category at the Scottish Renewables Young Professional Green Energy Awards and subsequently won the Judges Award at the main Scottish Renewables Green Energy Awards in December 2016
