Lorna Bennet

Mechanical Engineer, ORE Catapult

Lorna joined ORE Catapult in September 2016 as a Mechanical Engineer, forming part of the core Engineering team.  With a background in mechanical design and project management Lorna is involved in both research and design projects.

Having previous experience in marine energy development, with Pelamis Wave Power, Lorna brings a practical understanding of the challenges faced by the offshore renewable energy sector with a structured approach and technical knowledge. Lorna has experience of the design, development and technical challenges of delivering complex collaborative projects within multi-functional joint venture partnerships.

Prior to joining ORE Catapult, Lorna worked for six years in a variety of mechanical design engineering roles in a wide range of industries: wave power development, oceanographic research, oil and gas, aerospace and construction.

Lorna is a highly active STEM Ambassador, helping to inspire the next generation of engineers and scientists. She has assisted two different schools to build cars as part of the national Primary Engineer competition and volunteered as a judge at county and regional celebration events. She has also visited multiple schools to speak to students about engineering and renewable energy as part of National Science and Engineering month.
